Week 8
Week 8 was a good one, because I got a lot of questions answered at my second official OB check-up. It was nice to be reassured about some of my symptoms, and also to get more answers about the bleeding a couple weeks back. Dr. Mig told me that it looked like a subchorionic hematoma, which is basically blood trapped between the placenta and uterine wall. He said that sometimes this happens at implantation, but that mine looked very slight. He said that sometimes people can develop really large clots, but that mine was not even measurable. That was a relief! He said that we'd have to keep an eye on it, and scheduled me for another ultrasound the following week, so they could take a closer look and see if it was healing itself. He said that it was normal to still be having some spotting, and that it could actually continue for a while. He gave me some samples of different vitamins to try...capsule ones, meaning no icky taste to gag on! He also assured me that it was OK if I could only eat bread and potatoes for now (his wife ate tater tots!), and that hopefully my appetite would return (I'd actually lost a pound since my last appointment) after the first trimester and I would be able to go back to the world of nutrition. He also told me that he isn't fully convinced that I have a true thyroid problem, but that my levels could have been elevated due to the pregnancy. That was good news, as it means I may not have to continue the medication after Baby Batts comes. Oh, and I believe it was around this time that I noticed my stomach was suddenly round! They say at this stage it is more bloat than baby, but whatever it is, it looks and feels like a bump to me! All in all, it was a very positive week!
